It has been a year of changes for my dude Wonder. He has changed names, dropping "Luck-One" to his given first, "Hanif," and changed cities, leaving his adopted home town of Portland for his birthplace of NYC. He has also considerably switched up his style in the past few years, changing from a quick tongued, angry political-minded emcee to an equally thought provoking rapper who takes the time to slow it down and let you hear a broader range of sentiments and topics.
This offering, part of his Weekly Wonder series co-signed by 2DopeBoyz (represent!), showcases his evolution as an artist. The beat is a slow, chill-out groove, grinding bass and head bobbing drums over ethereal synth pads. The cadences are low key to match, waxing rhymes while reminiscing on relationships gone wrong. Hanif is on his grown-man, and what grown adult can't relate to this subject matter? Amen.
